Product Overview

Use extrusion when the cross-section stays constant along the length

Start with the application

Final material, geometry, tolerances and documentation must be confirmed against the drawing and operating conditions.

Extrusion is efficient for long silicone components with a continuous cross-section. Raw silicone compound is pushed through a shaped die, cured and controlled through downstream handling to create tubing, cord, sealing strips and custom profiles.

LSAN reviews cross-section, wall thickness, corner radii, hardness, cut length, joining and packaging before die manufacture. Die swell and elastic recovery mean the tool does not simply copy the nominal drawing; sampling is used to establish the production profile.

Secondary operations can include cutting, punching, slitting, adhesive application, vulcanized joining and frame fabrication when required by the assembly.

What We Make

Continuous shapes for sealing, routing and protection

Standard profile families can be adapted, or a dedicated die can be developed for a custom cross-section.

01

Silicone Tubing & Hose

Round or shaped hollow profiles for fluid, air, cable protection and device interfaces.

02

D-, P- & Bulb Profiles

Compressible sealing profiles for doors, enclosures, hatches and equipment frames.

03

U-Channels & Edge Trim

Protective and sealing sections fitted over panel, glass or metal edges.

04

Solid Cord & Strips

Round cord, square cord, rectangular strips and continuous packing sections.

05

Custom Cross-Sections

Multi-lip, hollow, keyed or contoured profiles developed from a drawing or sample.

06

Joined Frames & Rings

Extruded profiles cut and joined into closed loops or frame gaskets.

Technical Starting Points

Define the part before tooling

Cross-section inputDimensioned profile drawing or clean sample with critical features identified.
Common constructionsSolid, hollow, cellular or multi-feature profiles depending on the project.
HardnessSelected around compression force, flexibility, installation and service environment.
Length supplyContinuous coil, reel, straight length or cut-to-length pieces.
Secondary operationsPunching, notching, slitting, adhesive, printing, joining or frame fabrication.
Dimensional controlProfile size, wall, concentricity, cut length and joint criteria defined by project.

Values and options above are design starting points, not a universal product specification. Final capability depends on compound, geometry, size, tooling and inspection method.

Design Review

A profile drawing should anticipate extrusion behavior

  • Use balanced wall thickness and smooth internal flow paths where possible.
  • Avoid extremely sharp corners and thin isolated fins that are difficult to support after the die.
  • Identify which surfaces seal, locate or engage so tool corrections focus on function.
  • Define acceptable bow, twist, coil set and cut-length tolerance for the assembly.
  • For hollow profiles, confirm collapse resistance, venting and compression direction.
  • Design joints and corners around the intended frame geometry and sealing load.
Material Selection

Choose the compound around exposure and function

General HCR Silicone

Widely used for industrial cord, strips, tubing and sealing profiles.

Platinum-Cured Silicone

Considered for low-odor, cleanliness-sensitive, food or medical projects with required documentation.

High-Temperature Silicone

Used for oven, thermal equipment and hot-air sealing applications after exposure review.

Flame-Retardant Silicone

Available options can be reviewed for electrical, transport and enclosure specifications.

Conductive Silicone

Used for electrical continuity, static management or specialty shielding profiles when specified.

Fluorosilicone

Considered for profiles exposed to fuels, oils and selected chemicals.

Development Process

From requirement review to repeat production

A staged process makes approval criteria visible early and reduces avoidable sampling loops.

01

Profile & Application Review

Confirm cross-section, compression, length, environment, quantity and secondary operations.

02

Die & Compound Proposal

Select material, die concept, cure route and downstream handling.

03

Sample Extrusion

Produce initial lengths and adjust the die or process for functional dimensions.

04

Fit & Joint Validation

Verify installation, compression, cut length, joining and application performance.

05

Production & Packaging

Control the approved profile and package to limit distortion or contamination.

Application Experience

Where these parts are used

Extruded silicone profiles serve as continuous seals, protective edges, tubing and routing components across many industries.

01

Medical Equipment

Tubing, sleeves and profiles with project-specific cleanliness and material documentation.

02

Aerospace & Transport

Door, hatch, panel and environmental sealing profiles.

03

Robotics & Electronics

Cable protection, enclosure seals, light diffusers and flexible routing components.

04

Food & Industrial Equipment

Washdown seals, oven gaskets, tubing, edge protection and continuous strips.

Quality Planning

Quality points for silicone extrusions

  • Cross-section, wall thickness and critical lip or channel dimensions inspected against the approved profile.
  • Surface checked for contamination, tearing, die lines, inclusions and unacceptable deformation.
  • Cut length, punch location, adhesive and joint alignment controlled where secondary operations apply.
  • Profile supplied and packaged to manage coil set, kinking, crushing or dust exposure.
  • Compression, leakage or fit testing used when drawing dimensions alone do not prove function.
Compliance Note

Documentation is material- and project-specific

Food-contact, medical, flame-retardant, electrical or chemical requirements should be stated at RFQ stage. LSAN will review the requested standard and available material documentation before quotation. A material option should not be treated as certified for every application unless the corresponding documentation is supplied and accepted.

Helpful RFQ files

STEP/STP, IGES, PDF drawing, material or regulatory requirement, annual quantity, target hardness, color and intended operating environment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions buyers ask before requesting a quote

Do I need a drawing for a custom extrusion?

A dimensioned cross-section is preferred. A good sample can support evaluation, but a controlled profile drawing is recommended before production.

What is die swell?

Silicone can elastically expand after leaving the die. Tool dimensions and process settings are adjusted through sampling to achieve the required finished profile.

Can extrusions be supplied with adhesive?

Yes, selected pressure-sensitive adhesive systems can be applied, subject to substrate, temperature, storage and assembly review.

Can you join profiles into frames or rings?

Yes. Butt, angle or vulcanized joints may be considered depending on cross-section, size, appearance and sealing requirements.

What tolerance applies to an extruded profile?

Tolerance depends on profile size, wall thickness, hardness, complexity and measurement method. Critical functional dimensions should be identified for review.
