Use extrusion when the cross-section stays constant along the length
Final material, geometry, tolerances and documentation must be confirmed against the drawing and operating conditions.
Extrusion is efficient for long silicone components with a continuous cross-section. Raw silicone compound is pushed through a shaped die, cured and controlled through downstream handling to create tubing, cord, sealing strips and custom profiles.
LSAN reviews cross-section, wall thickness, corner radii, hardness, cut length, joining and packaging before die manufacture. Die swell and elastic recovery mean the tool does not simply copy the nominal drawing; sampling is used to establish the production profile.
Secondary operations can include cutting, punching, slitting, adhesive application, vulcanized joining and frame fabrication when required by the assembly.

A profile drawing should anticipate extrusion behavior
- Use balanced wall thickness and smooth internal flow paths where possible.
- Avoid extremely sharp corners and thin isolated fins that are difficult to support after the die.
- Identify which surfaces seal, locate or engage so tool corrections focus on function.
- Define acceptable bow, twist, coil set and cut-length tolerance for the assembly.
- For hollow profiles, confirm collapse resistance, venting and compression direction.
- Design joints and corners around the intended frame geometry and sealing load.

General HCR Silicone

Quality points for silicone extrusions
- Cross-section, wall thickness and critical lip or channel dimensions inspected against the approved profile.

Documentation is material- and project-specific
Food-contact, medical, flame-retardant, electrical or chemical requirements should be stated at RFQ stage. LSAN will review the requested standard and available material documentation before quotation. A material option should not be treated as certified for every application unless the corresponding documentation is supplied and accepted.

Questions buyers ask before requesting a quote
Do I need a drawing for a custom extrusion?
A dimensioned cross-section is preferred. A good sample can support evaluation, but a controlled profile drawing is recommended before production.
What is die swell?
Silicone can elastically expand after leaving the die. Tool dimensions and process settings are adjusted through sampling to achieve the required finished profile.
Can extrusions be supplied with adhesive?
Yes, selected pressure-sensitive adhesive systems can be applied, subject to substrate, temperature, storage and assembly review.
Can you join profiles into frames or rings?
Yes. Butt, angle or vulcanized joints may be considered depending on cross-section, size, appearance and sealing requirements.
What tolerance applies to an extruded profile?
Tolerance depends on profile size, wall thickness, hardness, complexity and measurement method. Critical functional dimensions should be identified for review.
